Living the (Disney) Dream

Walt Disney famously said, “If you can dream it, you can do it”. And he certainly lived up to his words. That quote has always inspired me and I have dedicated my life to turning my dreams into reality, so I was dismayed to read a recent article in the Daily Mail that suggested a staggering 75% of Brits spend up to two hours a day dreaming of a different life. Over half the respondents in the poll admitted to dreaming of being super rich. It pains me to think of all those people believing that all they can do is dream, when, if they put those two hours of daydreaming into action, they might be able to achieve what they want.

I certainly did a fair amount of dreaming in my teenage years, but I soon started to put those dreams into action. I knew I wanted a different life from the one my hard-working parents had experienced. They dedicated every hour they could to building their Chinese takeaway business. I also wanted a successful business, but I also wanted freedom. It took a huge amount of hard work and sacrifice, but today I am living the life I once dreamed of. And I am determined to help others believe they can do the same.

It is not luck that will bring your fortune; it is hard work. Change will never happen unless you shift your mindset and alter your lifestyle. If you normally get up at 7am for work, get up at 6am and do some research on building a business. Remember my motto… do what other’s won’t to have the life that others won’t! I didn’t start with any money. I simply worked as hard as I could to build the life I wanted. There is more information than ever out there. Get educated. Work out what you can do to get the life you want. What most people dream of is not being rich, it is being rich for doing nothing. Well that’s fine as long as you know the odds!

I have long been deeply concerned that the lottery has damaged people’s perceptions of how to “get rich”. The advertising makes getting rich look like the only way it can happen is by buying a ticket, and then it can happen over night. The odds of that happening are crazy. You are far more likely to get rich if you make a dedicated plan to build assets and a systemized business. And it doesn’t happen over night; it takes a huge amount of time and effort. But I am living proof of Walt Disney’s philosophy… that if you can dream it, you can do it.
