Angelina Cheng Matthews is an ex-head-hunter, who now works as a career change coach, talent strategist and recruitment trainer. She is passionate about helping people to find their dream jobs and unlock their potential; attracting top talent for organisations and equipping hiring managers with better talent acquisition skills and practices.
Angelina is originally from China and, prior to transitioning to in-house recruitment, led the Private Equity practice for MRI China Group, a global search firm, where she placed over four hundred middle to senior executives in many of the world’s leading organisations.
Before embarking on her executive search career, Angelina was Executive Director for SGI Frontier Capital, a US private equity fund based in Beijing that focuses on high-growth opportunities in Asia, Africa and South America. She also spent time in London working for the Global Real Estate Institute, and the BBC World Service as a Project Manager.
In 2008, Angelina started working for MRI China Group, where she built and led the Alternative Investment and Real Estate Practice. She originated and completed searches for top-tier, global and regional equity firms and also helped private equity and venture capital firms to secure talent for their portfolio companies. Some of Angelina’s high-profile clients during this time included GIC, Goldman Sachs PIA, Warburg Pincus, Summit Partners, PAG, New Horizon, Intellectual Ventures, Tesco, TA Associates, MBK Partners, Aetos Capital, Hines, Adveq.
Angelina’s next role was Head of Talent Acquisition for Tishman Speyer, a tier-one, global asset manager, where she spearheaded their talent acquisition and employee engagement strategy. As a result, talent acquisition costs and time were halved and hiring quality and retention rates were significantly improved.
In 2016, Angelina began working as a career change coach and talent acquisition specialist, helping and training businesses to build or streamline their recruitment processes, thereby minimising costs and improving retention rates. She also helps job-hunters and aspiring professionals gain clarity of their careers and take control of the job-hunting process, to land their dream jobs and set themselves up for success. Alongside this, Angelina works for REA – Partners In Transition, an industry leader in providing global transition assistance and career management services to corporations and individuals and helping expat clients successfully transition to a new country through career coaching.
Angelina has personally interviewed over 20,000 people. Her clients include some of the world’s most well-known investment firms and their portfolio companies and her unique perspective from both sides, as a head-hunter and internal recruiter enables her to provide comprehensive support to her clients regarding job searches, interviews and salary negotiation.
Angelina holds a BA in Diplomacy and English from the China Foreign Affairs University, an MA in Marketing from Kingston University, London and a postgraduate diploma in Ecommerce from the University of London. She is also an advanced scuba diver, award-winning dancer, face paint artist and fully certified Pilates instructor.
